Chapter 17
Chapter 17 is a link to a website titled, We Need Diverse Books (WNDB). WNDB promotes literature that reflects diversity. On the WNDB website, it states that their mission statement is to put “more books featuring diverse characters into the hands of all children”. WNDB also stresses the fact that diversity to them means “including (bot not limited to) LGBTQIA, Native, people of color, gender diversity, people with disabilities, and ethnic, cultural, and religious minorities” ("We Need Diverse Books”).
Looking through their website, one is able to learn about the programs that WNDB offers, learn of ways to volunteer/fundraise, view various resources, and view their blog posts. I searched through the FAQ posts that were available, and I learned about WNDB’s app called Our Story. There is a free version of the app that only allows users to find diverse books and view content from various authors, but the paid version includes these features along with being able to view WNDB curriculum and content. Learning of this organization and their available app can be very helpful to me now and in the future as I search for diverse books to offer to my students and/or have in my library.
