Textbook Assignment #3: Chapter 15

Chapter 15

This chapter discusses Richard Peck’s 10 questions to ask about a novel, and I immediately thought about how I could incorporate these questions into my reading lessons. I would consider these questions to be high-order thinking questions, because they may require my students to think outside of the box. For example, question number 3 asks, “If you were to film the story, would you use black and white or color and why?”. This question may be hard for my second graders to think of, but it would still serve as a good purpose and topic of discussion. A question that I know my students would enjoy discussing would be question number 9, which states, “If you had to redesign a new cover for the book, what would it look like?”. Again, it may require my students to think a little more, but I know they would enjoy drawing and coloring a new cover for a book.  Regardless of these 10 questions being difficult, they would serve a great purpose for me to use in my classroom while doing a book talk with my students, or wanting to grab their attention to a new book that we are reading.
