Chapter 5 Summary
The chapter, “What is YA literature?”, had bullet points describing the important aspects of YA literature, which was very helpful to me. Before this course, I had little to no information on YA literature since the majority of my reading had revolved around children’s literature. Having these bullet points next to me as I read my YA literature can help me dissect my YA books and see how the information provided is shown in the storylines. For example, while reading my stories, I can ask myself “Who is the youthful protagonist that the storyline is following?”, “What was the significant change in the main characters life?”, or “How did the storyline show the reader a sense of how adolescents develop?”. These are only three out of the ten bullet points that were provided in the chapter that I can use to help me better understand how the YA book fits the YA literature descriptions.
